RIVER RAFTING KUNDALIKA RIVER

We started our drive from Pune at 6.30 a.m. The destination was Kundalika river at Saje village. We reached rafting starting point at 9.oo am. We were greeted by friendly guides from Mercury Himalayan Explorations. They handed us Life jackets, Padels and helmets and off we headed towards the rafts parked on the bank of the river.

Before we started the rafting, our guide Ram Singh gave us briefing about the sitting position, safety & rescue instructions and commands to be followed while rafting in the river.

Our Journey through white water started by worshipping river Kundalika. This was done by raising our paddles in air with loud roar of “Kundalika Mata Ki Jai”.

Thrill and excitement was increasing with every rapid. The every drop of water falling on us while going through the rapids was worth it. As we approached the biggest rapid named “Kerry”, our guide instructed us to be calm, take correct positions, follow every single instruction and hold the life line strongly. As we were going through this level III rapid a big wave hit the raft and within fraction of second three of us fell into the river. Two of us managed to hold the raft while our guide pulled us back in the raft. Third person was slightly away from the raft so the guide threw the safety rope bag and pulled her into the raft.

This incident only added thrill to the adventure. (absolutely no fear and no safety issues) I enjoyed this moment to the fullest and will go down the memory lane for long.

The entire rafting is about 14 kms. As we approached the last part which is still waters our guide told us to jump in the water and swim in the river. Swimming approximately 2 kms with the flow was simply amazing. This is possible even for non swimmers as life jacket helps to float. The total rafting time is approx. 2 hrs depending on the water flow. The end point of the rafting is at village Sutarwadi.

If you wish to carry camera in the raft, please put the same in dry bag available with the guide and may click pictures in still waters towards the end of the river.

Route Details:
Pune > Chandani Chowk > Mulshi > Tamhini Ghat > Vile Phata ( at approx. 80 kms.)> after the diversion look out for a small hotel cum dhaba named “ Deep Sahyadri” ( Just to make doubly sure you are on the right track). Continue to move ahead approx 1 kms and look out for left turn which slopes downwards > Saje Village (approx. 11 kms). The entire drive is pleasant and simply out of the world.

The drive is about 2.5 hrs from Pune. The total distance 100 kms.

Route from Pune to Saje Village is through heavens called “Tamhini Ghat”. Every hill and mountain is carpeted with green grass. Thick fog, bunch of big waterfalls, conspiring clouds who seems to play kids game “touch and run” with the mountains and astounding rain showers in between add to the glory. Temptation of capturing all this in camera lens is simply irresistible.
