Mastani Talao , Lake

A Panaromic view of Mastani Talao as seen from Dive Ghat.
Mastani Talao is one of the reservoirs of drinking water built in Peshava regime to supply the water to Shaniwar Wada, Royal Residence of Peshavas and surrounding Pune city. The another one is Katraj Talao. The water was driven in defined channels all the way right up to Pune. The remains of the channels can still be seen. It only throws light on the foresight of Maratha Rulers and their sense of Town Planning.

The Talao is named against Mastani, beloved of Bajirao, the First. The love story of Bajirao and Mastani is a rare leaf of romantic facet of Maratha History.

Today the Talao is just neglected. It can not only be just be used to augment water resources for the city, but can also be developed as a tourist spot for youth to inspire from the story of Bajirao and Mastani
